My Process for Creating Fine Art Photographs

My Process for Creating Fine Art Photographs - Guy Farmer Photography

My process for creating fine art photographs is quite simple because it’s just me being me. Everything starts with a sense that I need to create something. It’s a feeling I can’t control, an urge that’s wired into my very being. I simply have to express myself in some way.

I set up my beloved aluminum foil shapes and colored paper on a table and begin the process of moving things around until something catches my eye. There’s a feeling of wonder and elation deep inside me that I experience when I see an arrangement that appeals to me.

I try to be conscious of how the light is hitting the objects and the interplay between positive and negative space. Shape and line are really important to me as well because they convey and suggest so many things. I want the image to tell a story, evoke a feeling, or encourage exploration, taking the viewer on a journey.

The images that mean the most to me are those that make me feel something and resonate deep within me. I want my photos to be a reflection of me, who I am. Those are the ones I share with the world.
