Abstract Photography Allows Me to Express My Comfort with Ambiguity

Abstract Photography Allows Me to Express My Comfort with Ambiguity - Guy Farmer Photography

I’ve always been comfortable with and even enjoyed ambiguity, preferring to live in shades of gray and endless possibilities rather than concrete, humdrum certainty, which is probably why abstract photography fits me so well.

When I look at my works, I see worlds unfolding before me. I’m transported to many different places. I feel any number of things, from wonder to curiosity to elation. Because I delight in living a life where not everything is certain, I look forward to the delicious tension of not knowing what my photos mean exactly. I don’t want to know for certain what my pieces mean, I’m happy just existing with them and allowing them to take me where they may.

I relish creating photos that thrive in a place where things aren’t always clear but are unfailingly fascinating. I love losing myself in my pieces, feeling anything that comes up and reflecting on myself and the world around me. It’s fun and, at the same time, deeply meaningful to create art that makes me think and feel, and expresses my multifaceted, open-minded self.
